Wulingyuan Tourist Area

    Wulingyuan is situated in Dayong City in northwestern Hunan Province, with an area of 369 square kilometers. It is composed of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Suoxiyu Valley and Tianzishan (Mt. Emperor). The climate is of subtropical monsoon moisture, with no chilly days in winter and no hot days in summer. The average temperature all year round is 14 - 15 degree centigrade.

The uniqueness of Wulingyuan is its forest of sandstone peaks, which offers divinity, mystery, beauty and wilderness, earning it the name labyrinth of nature. The peaks is usually above 200 meters. Streams flow through the forest of peaks. There are 560 scenic spots. About 97.3 percent of the area is covered with forests, which contain 95 categories, 538 kinds of woody plants, 27 kinds of trees, of which have been listed by the state as key protection species. There are 962 kinds of animals and birds, 20 rare animals of which have come under state protection.

In December,1992 The Wulingyuan Scenic Area was listed in the Chronology of   Recognition of World Heritages in China.
